I have not updated this website for several years. In the years after Covid my focus was on the final publication of the research Louise Heren and I had been undertaking on the events of 31 January 1919 – the ‘Battle of George Square’. Some of the preliminary research on this subject is available to download in the publications section of this site.
The culmination of this work was the publication of two books. First, in 2023, Tanks in the Streets? The Battle of George Square, Glasgow 1919 (Louise Heren & Gordon Barclay, Pen & Sword, ISBN 1526782650 HBk (2023); ISBN 1399016589 PBk (2025), a popular and wide-ranging account. Subsequently, in 2025, we published the full academic monograph, fully referenced (G Barclay & L Heren, Birlinn, ISBN 9780859767415 PBk).
Having had to deal with a family emergency through most of 2026, I hope I will now have the time and energy to update the website more frequently.
